Standardized Testing

Achievement Testing – Aptitude Testing – Career Testing for Grades 3 – 11

What is Achievement Testing?

Achievement testing has been designed to ascertain how your child has progressed in relationship to others in their same grade level. You will be able to compare your child to others nationwide in the areas of mathematics, reading, language, study skills, science, and social studies. Calvary Christian School uses the Stanford Achievement Test published by the Psychological Corporation.

What is Aptitude Testing?

Tests measuring aptitude reflect past learning and do not directly measure innate ability. They are an indicator of the potential your child has for future learning. Aptitude testing in conjunction with achievement testing can be a valuable tool in determining in your child is performing at, above, or below their capabilities. CCS used the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test published by the Psychological Corporation.

What is Career Testing?

Career testing involves two aspects. One part of testing measures the student’s aptitude for certain careers. The second part quantifies their interests, likes, and dislikes. The Differential Aptitude Test (DAT) published by the Psychological Corporation is used in career testing at CCS.

What about the PSAT?

Calvary Christian School is a test site each October for the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) published by the Educational Testing Service (College Board). Many consider this a practice test for the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test).

How should my child prepare for testing?

There is no studying necessary to prepare for achievement testing, aptitude testing, or career testing. However a good nights rest and a good breakfast are invaluable. Also remind your child to bring at least two number two lead pencils.

When will I get scoring results?

Typically it takes eight weeks to receive and organize scoring. Generally you will be notified of results of Spring testing in June and of PSAT testing in December.

Who can I contact to get more information?
